flowers, love notes and chocolate

this upcoming sunday is that 'not-really-a-holiday' holiday that is so famously known as mothers day.
We are all expected to spend the day with our mothers, buy them nice gifts and indulge them, taking them out to a nice meal etc. And I would like to say that I have nothing against mothers and indulging them, letting them know how special they are, but mother's day is such a pathetic commercial excuse for all the chocolate, flowers, soaps&incense stores, along with the David Jones and Myers of this world, to get you to buy products for your dear darling mother.
It's a joke. Why should we have to be told that on this day, you spoil you're mother and tell her how special she is. Shouldn't you do that whenever you feel is necessary anyway? Shouldn't that be a default setting in expressing our love for them?
As was so cliched-ly stated this morning in the way-to-early mother's day mass at school, Mothers are so special, and they do endless things for us.
Yes. They do.
and I cannot describe to you how much I appreciate and care for my mother, but this holiday is not even a real holiday. It's a confusion.
What's more, why is it that the CHILDREN are the only ones expected to do anything?
If the day is a day to celebrate the mothers of the family, shouldn't it be collaboratively done so by the family? Just because we are the children, doesn't mean we should have to organise and plan every single detail and purchase every single gift. The husbands are part of the family too, what stops them from celebrating their wife for her motherly duties to the family?

And then, what do you do when the taste of your mother is not only out of your price range but also very picky?
Well basically we're just screwed.
And we're expected to take on all the costs of the entire operation too.

handywork

We all know it's horribly cliched but I diy-ed a pair of jeans the other day, and i actually LOVE them. Because unlike everyone else, I didn't just slash them and rip them up, I messed around with the colour tool.
The previous night I found some old skinny jeans that really weren't anything special ($25 actually) so I decided to "acid wash" them with bleach.
The first round wasn't too successful - it was too pale and just looked like someone had accidently sloshed bleach on the denim. But on the 2nd try I rubbed in a whole lot more Domestos and left them outside for an hour or too and the result was Awesome (in my opinion).
Then I sandpapered them and attacked them with the stanley knife and viola!

I don't mean to brag but everyone thought they were expensive store-bought jeans.
The Ksubi's we were craving? I think so....
=P

attempts

the darling j and i are always attempting to do everything. That's just who we are.
We are constantly changing our plans about our future and that's cool with us.
After an amusing and slightly pointless trip into the the city, j stayed at mine for the night where we did nothing but hang out.
We attempted to jam with an acoustic guitar that was never really in tune, a base guitar with the WORST guitar amp in the world, and an electric piano that was in the wrong room.
Interesting? very...

Our aim was to pull an all-nighter, but like most of our ideas, it fell through as we weren't really in the mood for it. But we did manage 3am, watching pathetic television, random taped tv shows, 'Red Eye' and 'Factory Girl ' (searching for life-inspiration).
We discussed all topics, and went through all my house snacks (which really wasn't much...) and had a few laughable myspace status updates.
I love that we can just talk about everything and anything.

random nights

Random nights always seem to happen to me.
What was supposed to be a bit of a free-house chill, turned into everyone piling into a car to go to this 18th, which into me walking round the corner to chill at p's house with him and the bf instead.
Completely weird, but the preferred course of action - although the walk back to C's was like a trek through Antarctica in short-shorts, boots and a midriff top. Good one pip!

The Next random night was before the boy and I planned to get up and see the sunset at bondi beach. A free-house party really was nothing of the sort, with nothing but Chanel V for music, but a free supply of cruisers. Not thrilling, but with the right people we can still have an alright time.
Got some happy snaps from the night.

kick back like we don't give a fuck

So these holidays weren't anything special, I didn't really get up to much exciting, but I guess I went out a bit. Most of the time was spent chilling out with various people.

The other week when I was spending the evening with the boy, we heard of a party on in the area so we headed over to his mate's place where everyone gathered before they went. Chilled at his empty house with the music up, had a couple of drinks then decided to check out this party. We had a driver so we (me and five guys) piled into the car, drinks in hand and pumped the music up, speeding round to the other end of the suburb, cruising the streets of greenacre.
The party turned to be a real dud, and we literary left after five minutes. As soon as we said hello we were saying goodbye and piling back in the car. And as lame as it sounds, the car trip was heaps better than the party.
Sitting on the boys streets we cruised back home, listening to Bomfunk MC's Uprocking Beats, speeding round the corners and hitting the max volume.
You gotta experience it to love it, but once you do, I can assure you you will.
Good people, good night.
Ending in a tipsy watching of "Scary Movie" back at the free house.

Manly time

The first Wednesday of the holidays was quite an amusing one, consisting of a VERY amusing lunch with the boyfriend and his aunty, grandparents and cousins from the Central Coast at the Ashfield Wests Club. Oh you can just imagine it now...
But an afternoon in Newtown is always enjoyable, and i realised how LITTLE clothes i have, no exageration. I need to stop spending my money on stupid things and save for vitalities such as fashion items (i know, it all sounds incredibly superficial).

The evening was spent in Manly with E where we began a much anticipated "Hornblower" marathon. If you haven't seen it, you really should. it is one of the very best television shows about Naval Officers in the time of Bonaparte and the War between England and France.
Plus Ioan Gruffudd is amazing.

Late-night ice-cream on the beach (y)
We look horrible. But hifive for not caring!

the time of release

that we tend to call the holidays.
And I'm sorry i haven't posted since easter but well, i am lazy.
So here's a recap.

My holidays consisted of piercings, many gatherings, sleep-ins, window-shopping, cruisin', random movie-nights, an allmost sunrise, party music, plenty of late nights, Hornblower, more wishing-i-had-certain-clothing-item and the people i love.

So yes, i got my belly button pierced exactly two weeks ago today and i'm in LOVE with it. It's just small, plain and simple but I am now craving more piercings =P
There's been a lot of rave over the pain, but honestly i didn't think it was that bad. And can i point out that I was in there ALONE, my step-dad deciding to just wait outside. Gripping the chair i braced myself for the worst but it wasn't too bad.
Sore for a couple of days later, yes, plus i had to go spend the night with a whole bunch of males, but surprisingly they were gently (thankgod).

Many band practices have also consumed my time these holidays as we're preparing for our upcoming performance at Cranbrook College.
I'm bassist (and keys at times) in a 5-person band called 'The Spooks' (just for the moment though, because i really don't like our name that much).
Next Sunday we're playing at 'Cranbrook Idol' - a sort of battle of the bands for Cranbrook-based bands where the winning band walks away with a session at a professional recording studio.
Last year we came 2nd to the amazing Vagabonds, so this year we're going to win!
Come along and suport us! We really need people to vote for us once we get through to the second round!

I would also like to say, that I'm not really keen on the slant my blog is taking
I'd much prefer it to be a lot more literate and arty, less of this recounting business....
