girls, colours & lanes

Being at ashfield swimming pool by 7.45 is not usually how I like to start the week, but yesterday was the annual domremy swimming carnival, and being the little perk-a-lerk that I am, I was there with the red vice and colour captains, bright and early to set up the red 'house of glam'. The morning began with a 15-minute decision on where we should place our house, lots of illegal crepe paper, climbing the shelter railings and using an entire roll of sticky-tape to try and stick down the red walk of stars. (Let us note that the operative word in that sentence was try and they were soon stuck to shoes bins, poolside - anywhere but where they were supposed to be).And this was only the beginning. The day continued to consist of screaming our voices out, far too much lipstick, running around trying to find people, jumping in the pool at exactly the wrong times, underwater photos and a general all-round kufuffle (<- i really don't think there is a correct spelling for that word...).

This year our whole school swimming theme was 'Glam your House' so of course i got riigghtt into it. School spirit people! And yes, I was that random who wore heels to a sports event to fit with a theme. Anything I could find that was red, it was
on me. But lets not forget other colours, we had a giant M&M, gangsters, 70's bodysuits and afr
os, wannabe Eminems, tutus&talibans, snorklers, and many more.
here is a bit of a snapshot of the red-house from my point of view.

As enjoyable as the day was, it could have been better. It really sucks when you wake up sick to such a carnival day where I always like to give it my all. I spent the majority of my swimming carnival sniffing & sneezing whilst standing around in the sun yelling at little apathetic 'know-it-all' young-ins. You'd think that when a senior told you as a little yr 7 kid to stand up and cheer for your house you'd listen and obey straight away yeah? No. These kids put it upon themselves to think they were too good, too 'cool' to show some house spirit.
Despite being sick, I spent the majority of my day with the yr 12's, screaming my lungs out in an attempt to start and keep-up a decent amount of house cheer and spirit. You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to get some kids to squash in and just listen to what you're saying for 5 measly minutes. I literally lost my voice over these people - believe me, i did not give it up!
but that's what it's all about aye?
